Overcoming Procrastination As A Busy Mom

Just like spring cleaning, it's time to sweep away the cobwebs of procrastination and embrace a fresh start. As a busy mom of two and expecting a third, I know firsthand how easy it is to fall into the procrastination trap. Between juggling nap times, snack requests, and the ever-growing mountain of laundry/dishes, it often feels like there's simply not enough time in the day. But fear not! Iā€™m sharing some simple, straightforward tips, that we can utilize together to break free from the cycle of procrastinationā€¦

  • Set Micro-Goals: Instead of overwhelming yourself with a long to-do list, break tasks into tiny, manageable goals. Celebrate each small victory, whether it's organizing a single drawer or scheduling a doctor's appointment. Micro-goals make big tasks feel less daunting and keep you motivated.

  • Prioritize with Purpose: With children, every moment is precious, so prioritize tasks that align with your values and needs. Ask yourself, "What will make the biggest positive impact on my day?" Whether it's a quick declutter session or a peaceful moment with the kids, focus on what truly matters.

  • Embrace the Power of Routine: Establishing a daily routine can work wonders in combatting procrastination. Designate specific times for chores, work, and rest. Consistency helps create a rhythm, making it easier to tackle tasks without second-guessing or delay.

  • Involve the Kids: Turn chores into a family affair by involving them. Make it fun! Rory and I typically jam out to Chappell Roan and dance while tidying up. Not only does this lighten my load, but it also teaches the kids valuable skills.

  • Practice Self-Compassion: As a mom, it's easy to be hard on yourself. Remember that it's okay not to be perfect. Some days, getting through the day is an achievement in itself. Be kind to yourself and recognize that we are all just doing our best.

  • Take Breaks with Intention: When you're feeling burnt out, take intentional breaks to recharge. Whether it's a warm cup of tea, a quick walk outside, or a few deep breaths, these moments can replenish your energy and refocus your mind.

Let's give ourselves grace and permission to start new each day. Here's to a spring filled with purpose, play, and plenty of progress!
